Social Probation: Attendance and Behavior
Students are encouraged to be active participants in activities sponsored by the school. Students are advised that excessive absences or poor behavior may prevent them from participating or attending privileged activities in school such as athletics, field trips, band and choral events, parking on school campus, dances, etc.
Social probation is a result of inappropriate conduct on school property, at a Jackson County School activity, or a violation of the school’s attendance policy. Students placed on social probation are prohibited from being on school premises or at school events after school hours. Students assigned OSS are on social probation until their time is served. The duration of the probation will be established by the school administrator and is not to exceed one (1) school term in length. Violators will be escorted from the premises and trespassing charges may be filed.
Social probation is usually a result of misbehavior at an extra-curricular event or during school time. Assignment of social probation is at administrator discretion. Should violations of social probation occur, the violator will be removed from the event immediately and may be remanded into the custody of the parent or legal authorities. Refunds will not be issued for removal from school grounds.
Students who have accumulated 5 unexcused absences will be placed on social probation. This will include no attendance or participation in extracurricular activities, dances, etc. Additionally, parking privileges will be revoked until the social probation has been lifted.
Students are required to be in attendance the entire day of any scheduled activity (practice or game) in which they are to participate. This includes all after-school activities including extra and co-curricular activities, dances, etc.
This requirement will only be waived by an administrator if the absence is for an unavoidable reason or excused by a doctor's note.
