Dear Parents and Guardians of Ravenswood Middle School,

We are writing to share an important update regarding student attendance at middle school athletic events and games.

Earlier this year, we implemented a requirement that students must attend games with a parent or guardian. This decision was made with the best intentions...to help support our 11–13 year old's in being safe, respectful, and appropriate as spectators.

However, in practice, this has been very difficult to monitor and enforce consistently, especially during busy events with large crowds. Because of this, we will be returning to our previous practice:

Any student may attend middle school games without a parent or guardian.

That said, it is very important to be clear about expectations and consequences.

Student Behavior Expectations at Games
All students attending games are expected to:

Follow school rules and staff directions

Demonstrate respectful behavior and good sportsmanship

Remain in approved spectator areas

Represent our school and community appropriately

Consequences for Misbehavior
If a student is removed from a game for discipline issues, disrespect, inappropriate behavior, or poor sportsmanship:

A parent/guardian will be called and must come pick up the student immediately.

The student will be placed on extracurricular probation.

While on probation, the student will not be permitted to attend future games or extracurricular events.

This policy allows us to keep events open and accessible to students while still holding them accountable for their behavior.

We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing with your child that school events are a privilege, and that attending them comes with the responsibility to behave appropriately and respectfully.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to provide safe, positive experiences for all of our students.

Best,

Good afternoon, parents and guardians. We want to clarify a message that was shared earlier today or may be on your child's Canvas.

Students will not receive extra credit for attending the game tonight. Attendance is encouraged to support our students and school spirit, but it is not connected to grades or extra credit.

We apologize for any confusion this may have caused and appreciate your understanding and continued support of our school community. Please remember students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. We hope to see many of our students and families there cheering on our team!

Thank you!

Good morning 8th grade parents and guardians,

We're gearing up for an exciting 8th grade field trip to Yeager Airport on Thursday, December 18th.

Since we have had snow days, to make the process simpler, we are using an Opt-Out system for participation. This means that all students are automatically included in the field trip unless we receive a formal request to decline participation.

You DO NOT need to fill out a permission form if your student is attending the field trip.

You ONLY need to send a note or fill out a form for students who will NOT be attending the field trip.

Students who opt out of the trip will be given an alternative supervised assignment or activity on campus during the field trip hours. Please ensure the form is returned by Thursday morning if you would like he/she to opt out so we can plan accordingly.

Good morning,
After receiving updates from our drivers regarding morning road conditions, Jackson County Schools will continue to operate on a two-hour delay for Tuesday, December 9. Ninety-five percent of our bus routes are not affected.
However, if a bus cannot run your child's route, and you believe road conditions are still unsafe to meet the bus at a designated area, please send a note with your child to school the next day.
Also, please continue to monitor the Zonar App for bus updates.

Thank you, and have a great day.
